Key words

fluency, reports, abstracts, presentations

Prerequisites

Minimum CEFR level B2

Overall objective

to present research work and engineering projects fluently in the target language (written, and spoken).

Course content and organisation

This module focuses on two distinct and complementary areas:

  • Presenting effectively in a professional, scientific context - opening and closing a presentation, persuading, referring to visuals, rapport building, signposting and structure, acknowledging questions.
  • English for engineering - writing a report & reporting, describing experimental setups & processes, discussing methods, simplifying & writing an abstract.

Evaluation is based on personal participation and involvement as well as the quality of and effort put into the final presentation and written abstract.

Considerable input is required of the student. While level of English is not a deciding factor, motivation and commitment are of the utmost importance when choosing this module.
